How does partnering with e2i help businesses in job redesign?
Many organisations are looking forward to the implementation of Singapore’s roadmap to a new normal. There are advantages to planning ahead. One strategy is the redesign of job scopes and processes, while another is training the current workforce for future opportunities. Struck by the Covid-19 pandemic, the hospitality industry adopted job redesign and reskilling to keep workers in employment and plug manpower gaps.
Singapore is moving along with the plan for the country to live with Covid-19 as endemic.
In July 2021, Co-chair of the COVID-19 multi-ministry taskforce Gan Kim Yong shared a roadmap for the new normal. This is one where nearly all social and workplace restrictions are lifted, in-person services return, and larger capacity limits provide relief to pandemic-battered industries and sectors.
Many organisations are looking forward to this state of affairs happening sooner rather than later. In fact many businesses have redesigned their operations and processes as a response to multiple restrictions specific to their sector.
A business strategy for a state of endemic-ness
With the assurance that the Government is aiming for fewer shutdowns and lesser contact tracing in an endemic environment, businesses can start to prepare more regular operations.
For many businesses, being able to project resources forward without running the risk of lockdowns can be a game changer. Many of them have been in ‘under siege’ for the past few months, and working on keeping operations afloat and staff employed.
With the ability to plan properly and the space to operate without interruptions, many businesses can consider investing in the mid to long-term across diverse areas such as workforce, job scope and refining of processes.
There are advantages to planning ahead, with one strategy being the redesign of job scopes and processes, while another is training the current workforce for future opportunities. A skilled workforce can handle more responsibilities and help the business accelerate quicker in an endemic environment.
Partnering with e2i for job redesign
Process and job redesign is an approach that considers the various systems, processes and structures holistically and looks to change areas in order to achieve better business outcomes.
e2i works with industries and businesses to look at both process and workforce redesign that can serve as an advantage for the companies. Some of these redesign processes might be eligible for grants and subsidies.
Three training support programmes for the hospitality industry to keep workers in employment and plug current manpower gaps
In July, e2i partnered the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) and the Attractions, Resorts & Entertainment Union (AREU) to provide a training support package for hospitality-related companies.
As of May 2021, over 33 companies and more than 800 workers are onboard the programmes, with early adopters including Raffles Hotel Singapore and Tanglin Club.
As an outcome, the objective of the training support programmes, especially for the hospitality industry, is to help workers undergo multi-skilling and redeployment to safeguard their employment in the hard-hit sector.
