Marking a Decade of Career Conversions for the Property &Facilities Management Industry
- The Real Estate & Construction Centre and Real Estate & Construction Academy (RECC & RECA) celebrates a decade of equipping mid-career professionals with essential knowledge and skills to join the Property & Facilities Management industry. RECC & RECA has been growing and deepening the competencies of existing industry practitioners for more than two decades. The thriving industry faces a growing demand for professionals with the industry know-how and offers good jobs with career advancement opportunities.
- Held today at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability, Guest-of-Honour, Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say, officiated the graduation of the 10th and 11th cohort of the Property Executive Career Conversion Programme. Over 500 PMETs have undergone training and graduated from RECC & RECA’s career conversion programme since May 2006, and have been placed in various companies. Many were able to transit sucessfully into their new careers despite hailing from entirely different industries such as Manufacturing, Financial Services and Aviation. Minister Lim also gave out awards to recognise 8 enlightened individuals and employers who have been supportive in hiring career converted individuals and in sending their staff for in-employment skills upgrading.
- RECC, together with NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), also brought industry experts together for a half-day Facilities Management & Maintenance (FMM) masterclass. The masterclass aims to raise knowledge, skills and professionalism by expanding and deepening the capabilities of FMM practitioners, through sharing international developments, providing insights and frameworks to enable the industry to self-regulate and transform FMM from a reactive to a pre-emptive, predictive, proactive and productive service extending across the life cycle of building assets.
- The masterclass is supported by both local and international built environment professionals and – professional bodies. Over 200 persons attended the graduation event and close to 100 professionals attended the masterclass.
- Dr Quah Lee Kiang, Director of RECC & RECA says, “FMM Costs have been rising with ageing buildings and increasing user expectations. The Industry has been slow to change despite the challenges on the ground. The fragmented industry will need to transform itself from a ‘Cost to a Value’ by Integrating, Standardising, Deploying SMART Technology for Data Analytics, Adopting Performance-Based procurement Methods and Attaining Knowledge & Skills Mastery to achieve Higher Productivity and Improving Service Delivery. RECC and RECA is committed to provide the training to achieve this end in the new FMM Industry training centre established in e2i.”
- Mr Gilbert Tan, Chief Executive Officer of e2i, said, “We applaud the efforts of RECC & RECA in their success on growing the pool of professionals for the Facilities Management & Maintenance industry. We have been working closely with RECC & RECA for many years on programmes and initiatives to build a strong Singaporean core for the industry, and to grow and deepen the knowledge and competencies of industry practitioners. We stay committed in this partnership to bring good jobs and training to workers in this industry.”
