More PMETs to benefit from salary and employment support
More targeted career matchmaking trialed
- With the enhanced Career Support Programme (CSP), more Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMETs) can now be employed on competitive salaries. Local companies are heeding the Government’s call to strengthen their Singaporean core by working with Workforce Singapore (WSG) and NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) to showcase PMET jobs in the Adapt and Grow Career Series.
- Over 20 employers from five sectors (Healthcare, Hospitality, Infocomm Technology, Manufacturing and Professional Services) are participating in the Career Fair organised in conjunction with the Adapt and Grow Career Series. More than 260 CSP-eligible job vacancies with salaries $3,600 and above are available for unemployed, mature and experienced PMETs or those that have been made redundant.
- The enhanced CSP, which was announced by Minister for Manpower Lim Swee Say at the Committee of Supply debate on 6 March 2017, will provide higher salary support of up to $42,000 and over a longer duration to support unemployed eligible Singaporean PMETs who are actively looking for jobs for 12 months or more. Salary support for employers hiring those aged between 40 and 49 has also been effectively doubled. To help match more Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with Singaporean PMETs and increase the job opportunities, the qualifying salary for CSP will be lowered from $4,000 to $3,600 for SMEs.
- This edition of the ‘Adapt and Grow Career Series’ also showcases a couple of ‘firsts’ to minimise job “missed matches”. Curated career preparatory workshops were held in the days leading up to the Career Fair, enabling PMETs to be better prepared to meet with potential employers. The morning session of the Career Fair is by-invitation, targeted at PMET job seeks of WSG and e2i career centres with transferable skills, who had been made redundant or were in adjacent jobs to attend the Fair. Participants who attended the career preparatory workshops will also attend the morning session.
- The ‘Adapt and Grow Talks’ at the Career Fair, another ‘first’, aim to motivate and inspire PMETs to adapt to changes in their careers and cover topics such as ‘Managing Your Career in the New Economy’ and ‘Finding your Gift Zone’.
- Mr Tan Choon Shian, Chief Executive of WSG, said “To help Singaporeans take on new jobs, WSG is continually creating new opportunities and platforms as part of enhancements to our career matchmaking. I encourage employers and job seekers to work hand-in-hand with us, and ultimately build better careers for all.”
- Mr Gilbert Tan, Chief Executive Officer of e2i, said “It is encouraging to have enhanced support for the various Adapt and Grow initiatives, especially with our economy undergoing transformation to be more digital and global. As an enabler, e2i will work alongside individuals and companies to grow and gain access to the skills and job matching initiatives so as to help Singaporeans with better jobs for better lives.”
- The Adapt and Grow Career Series is jointly organised by Workforce Singapore (WSG) and NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i).
