Multi-agency effort to help the hotel industry address mismatches and missed matches
Adapt & Grow SkillsFuture Career Advisors to guide jobseekers on work expectations and career progressions in the hotel industry
SINGAPORE, 21 JULY 2017 – Multiple agencies are working together to help hiring employers in the hotel industry better engage and connect with jobseekers to address mismatches and missed matches in the employment landscape.
- To help jobseekers who are interested in the hotel industry have a better understanding of the industry, the roles it offers and the progression pathways of these roles, the Adapt & Grow SkillsFuture Career Advisors Programme for Hotel Industry was introduced at the Hotel Day, co-organised by Workforce Singapore (WSG) and NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i). The programme – a collaboration between WSG and Singapore Hotel Association (SHA), is a platform where hotel veterans can share their work experience and guide interested jobseekers on the different roles and progression pathways within the industry. Coupled with the Skills Framework for Hotels and Accommodation Services, interested jobseekers will have the necessary guidance and information to make informed decisions, on what are the skillsets required, where to get the required training to enter the industry, and where the jobs are.
- The pioneer batch of SkillsFuture Career Advisors, comprising 21 industry veterans include HR directors and hotel general managers. They have volunteered their time to provide jobseekers with guidance and advice on job prospects and work expectations in the hotel industry. Jobseekers who are interested in developing a career in the industry can also tap on the SkillsFuture Career Advisors’ deep knowledge and extensive experiences to map out their career path to up-skill, deep-skill or re-skill when they embark on a hotel career.
- To address missed matches, WSG and e2i organised the second edition of Hotel Day, with 25 employers offering 340 vacancies. This targeted career fair is part of the Government’s efforts to help the hotel industry drive recruitment and help ease manpower constraint. With hotel properties and room stock set to increase as Singapore expects more visitors and tourists, more employment opportunities are created for Singaporeans.
- Besides the focus on jobs and jobseekers, hotel employers also have a suite of grants and programmes to help drive productivity in their work processes. These include WSG’s WorkPro Job Redesign Grant, STB’s Business improvement Grant and e2i’s Inclusive Growth Programme.
- Mr Tan Choon Shian, Chief Executive of WSG said, “WSG is committed to working with partner agencies to address mismatches and missed matches in the hotel industry. We will also provide support to help employers redesign jobs and transform their work processes to bring on higher value jobs for the industry, benefiting both jobseekers and employers.”
- Mr Gilbert Tan, Chief Executive Officer of e2i said, “Through e2i’s close partnerships with the government, trade associations and employers, we are able to grow our network of industry experts and expertise to better develop and support Singapore’s pool of hospitality professionals. Industry practitioners will benefit from our extensive suite of services ranging from career advisory to training programmes, as well as access to industry networking and employment opportunities, to help them make well-informed career and skills upgrading choices for their growth and progression.”
- Minister, Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Manpower and Foreign Affair, Mrs Josephine Teo was the Guest-of-honour at Hotel Day 2017.
