NTUC’s e2i brings job opportunities and expands employment support to Singaporeans at the community level

- For the first time, the National Trades Union Congress’ (NTUC) e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) is bringing job opportunities to the community at the district level. e2i, together with grassroots volunteers from West Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and Pioneer Single Member Constituency (SMC), will kick off the inaugural Jobs Connect 2017 Career Fair at the Boon Lay Community Club on Friday, 30 June 2017.
- The 2-day Career Fair will offer over 1,000 vacancies from 27 companies in both service and technical sectors. In close partnership with NTUC’s UPME Centre and NTUC’s U Care Centre, e2i will also be conducting a workshop on the first day of the fair that covers essential job search skills sets such as resume writing and interview techniques and tips. There will also be sharing on the national SkillsFuture movement and its various schemes, and educating the job seekers on their employment rights.
- Another key feature of the Career Fair is the deployment of Employability Ambassadors (EAs) onsite. These EAs, who are predominantly grassroots volunteers, are part of the Labour Movement’s U Career Network, and e2i hopes to provide a greater employment and employability support network for peers and residents within the community through these EAs. To date, more than 100 volunteers have been trained to take on the role as EAs to serve the residents in West Coast GRC and Pioneer SMC.

Here at our district, we will continue to grow and strengthen the group of grassroots leaders and volunteers to support the residents’ employment and employability needs. With their role as Employability Ambassadors, I believe they can help give the extra boost to residents to help raise their employability and to be better prepared for the future jobs and skills of tomorrow”, said Mr Patrick Tay, BBM, Adviser to Boon Lay Grassroots Organisations.
- Mr Gilbert Tan, Chief Executive Officer of e2i said, “There is much synergy when we collaborate with the advisors and grassroots volunteers to bring good jobs to residents. e2i hopes to grow a strong network whereby the community can offer peer support and help to residents who need to seek employment or employability assistance. There are plans to roll out Jobs Connect Career Fair to more constituencies and we will work closely with the various partners to strengthen the support for residents.”
- The Career Fair is supported by the South West Community Development Council as part of the SkillsFuture Network @ South West to bring SkillsFuture closer to the community and to support South West District residents in their learning and employability journey. The collaboration aims to connect residents to emerging, flexible jobs or jobs near home.
