NTUC’s e2i to Expand Career Services Islandwide With Effect From 1 April 2024
Workforce Singapore will make strategic shifts to strengthen the career facilitation ecosystem, while e2i will amplify its on-ground outreach and employment assistance efforts
11 March 2024 – The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC)’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) will play an expanded role in supporting local workers and jobseekers through the handover of 12 centres from Workforce Singapore (WSG), including two career centres located at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) and Woodlands Civic Centre (WCC) and 10 Jobs and Skills Centres (JSCs), starting 1 April 2024.
With the strategic transfer, e2i will manage a total of 26 career and job services touchpoints, comprising four career centres (ie. Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability, One Marina Boulevard, OTH and WCC) and 22 JSCs islandwide. WSG will continue to operate its flagship Careers Connect situated at Lifelong Learning Institute. Details of the career centres and JSCs managed by both e2i and WSG can be found in Annex A.
NTUC’s e2i and WSG continue to support jobseekers in career building
The management of more career touchpoints will allow NTUC’s e2i to boost its ground outreach and facilitation efforts by bringing its provision of personalised career coaching, skills upgrading advisory and job matching services closer to the communities across Singapore. e2i and WSG will work together to ensure a smooth transition for Singaporeans who need employment assistance. WSG’s clients who are currently receiving career coaching services from the career centres at OTH and WCC will continue to be served by their existing coaches. WSG remains committed to supporting their clients in their career journey. Individuals can also continue to seek career advisory through WSG’s mobile network of Careers Connect On-The-Go (CCOTG), which is deployed islandwide on a rotational basis to bring career matching services closer to individuals in the heartlands.
Leveraging NTUC’s extensive community network including business associations and grassroots, e2i remains steadfast in its commitment to support job seekers throughout their career journeys. By empowering them with essential tools and employability skills, the focus is on helping the workforce, especially PMETs, youths, mature workers, vulnerable workers, and back-to-work women, to find employment opportunities in today’s dynamic job market. Some of these resources include Career Assessment Tool, Job Search Essentials workshops, PMET kits and Resume Builder. With an augmented talent pool, e2i is strategically positioned to deliver enhanced levels of career services and tailored solutions to better support its employer partners.
WSG to work closely with partners and strengthen career facilitation ecosystem
The handover of the career centre operations to NTUC’s e2i is a step forward as WSG shifts its role as the sector lead to strengthen the career facilitation ecosystem by working with partners, labour market intermediaries and employers. By partnering e2i to continue providing career matching services to help individuals secure employment, WSG will move upstream to strengthen the career health of our local workforce, by driving new initiatives to support the workforce in keeping abreast of the evolving job landscape, and to take proactive steps towards setting longer-term career goals. This will enable individuals to pursue upskilling purposefully and ensure that skills acquired are relevant to current and future jobs. An example of these initiatives is the Polaris programme, which was piloted in November 2023 to support individuals in charting their longer-term career development whilst still in-employment, and includes the exploration of new opportunities in emerging sectors. New digital services, such as the CareersFinder on WSG’s MyCareersFuture portal, were also introduced in July 2023 to provide individuals with personalised jobs and upskilling recommendations so that they can make better informed decisions in their career journey.
Helping Singaporeans stay employable and take a more active role in managing their careers remains a key priority for the Government and NTUC. WSG will work closely with its partners, including NTUC’s e2i, in workforce development and to enhance the career health of our workers, in tandem with Singapore’s economic transformation.
