Suntec City Mall provides locals with more than 1,000 job opportunities
Suntec City Mall, one of Singapore’s largest retail destinations, is set to unveil a refreshed look and an exciting lineup of more than 120 new stores in June 2013, when Phase 1 of its current remaking is completed. As a lead-up to this significant milestone, the Mall will be holding a career fair offering Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents more than 1,000 jobs in the Retail and Food & Beverage (F&B) sectors this week.
About 30 retail stores and F&B establishments have committed to be part of the Mall’s initiative, including H&M, Uniqlo, Lowrys Farm, Celio*, Guess, Gap, Charles & Keith and Breadtalk Group (Refer to Appendix for full listing). The fair, which will be held on 9 and 10 May 2013 at the Tropics Atrium of Suntec City Mall, is supported by National Trades Union Congress’ e2i (Employment and Employability Institute).
Ms Susan Sim, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ARA Trust Management (Suntec) Limited, the Manager of Suntec REIT, said, “The decision to organize a career fair of this scale is to enable us to meaningfully support our new tenants in attracting and identifying suitable candidates for the available job positions. It also serves as an opportune platform to create more job opportunities and choices for locals who now have access to a pool of established fashion, beauty and F&B brand employers in the downtown area.
“In addition, as part of the Mall’s constant efforts to be a model for service excellence, training will be provided to successful candidates to raise service standards and enhance the overall shopper experience.”
The career fair will see successful candidates undergo training to fulfill a vast array of needs from frontline to administrative and technical position to better prepare them for a career in the services sector. These include a 2.5-day “Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) The Service Innovator” course and a 1-day “WSQ Follow Food & Beverage Safety and Hygiene Policies and Procedures” course.
Mr R. Dhinakaran, Vice President of the Singapore Retailers Association and Managing Director of Jay Gee Melwani Group said, “Suntec City has been a landmark development in Singapore and has appealed to tourists and locals for years. The success of our brands lies very much on talent. Participating in career fairs like the one at Suntec City Mall is a win-win situation where we identify potential talent and more importantly, help them develop a rewarding career in the services industry. As a retail partner at Suntec, we have enjoyed the association over the years and we look forward to the launch of Suntec City in its new invigorated avatar, which we are sure will continue to define the shopping trends of the future.”
Mr Gilbert Tan, Chief Executive Officer of e2i said, “e2i is delighted that shopping mall operators in Singapore are taking on a key role in helping their tenants recruit skilled workers. This partnership with Suntec City Mall reaffirms our commitment to provide solutions for skilled manpower to meet the needs of the retail and F&B industry. We aim to train and recruit candidates for more than 1,000 vacancies under Suntec’s new makeover. Selected candidates will undergo customised training in Retail and F&B to raise their skills and employability so as to improve their employment opportunities.”
Suntec City Mall, owned by Suntec Real Estate Investment Trust (Suntec REIT), is currently undergoing a landmark remaking exercise for the first time in 17 years. The remaking will see an increase in retail space by 15% and greater diversity in retail, dining and entertainment offerings as well as improvements in the Mall’s overall connectivity and accessibility.
